Researcher

Researcher with experience in Auditory Science – Lyngby, Denmark

You will be focusing on technical and applied clinical research projects.

You will be an integral part of the Interacoustics Research Unit (IRU), established to work on individual characterization of hearing loss and functional deficits. The group works within auditory electrophysiology, wideband tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, hearing instrument fitting etc. For this position we are specifically looking to improve our capabilities related to hearing instrument fitting tools and procedures.

You will contribute directly to internally driven projects, as well as being responsible for planning and managing technical and clinical research projects with external partners. Sometimes, this will involve co-supervising MSc and PhD student projects alongside industrial, academic, and clinical partners.

Interacoustics Research Unit

IRU is located at the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby, just north of Copenhagen, and affiliated with the Hearing Systems research group (Centre for Applied Hearing Research; Oticon Centre of Excellence for Hearing and Speech Sciences; Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance; and further associated with the Copenhagen Hearing and Balance Centre), part of the Department of Health Technology.

By embedding IRU into a world-leading hearing science university department, the unit can ‘take the long view’ and pursue projects with a higher risk profile, than would be possible within normal industrial R&D groups.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders within product management and R&D to help ensure relevance of projects and that the outcome of the research leads to innovative new products and clinical applications.

Your tasks will include

  • Conceiving, driving, and contributing to internal research projects together with other IRU team members, including coding of experimental software (Matlab or Python), designing test protocols, and analysis of results.
  • Managing and supporting projects with national and international partners, including reporting on progress and timing to internal stakeholders.
  • Helping to conceive and design technical and clinical research projects within the scope of diagnostic audiology and hearing instrument fitting.
  • Developing a broad international network of research collaborators and partners.
  • Keeping your eyes and mind open to research in new potential directions for Demant’s Diagnostic Group.
  • Preparation of scientific communications, i.e., peer reviewed journal articles, industrial white papers, and other communications.
  • Preparation and delivery of oral and poster presentations at relevant international conferences and meetings.

To maintain our connection with product management and R&D, some limited (approx. 1 day/month) travel to our head office in Middelfart is expected. Total travel is expected to be around 4-8 weeks per year including conferences and national/international meetings.

We are no better than the people we have

We expect you to hold a PhD in engineering, audiology, or neuroscience, with published research in technical audiology or neuroscience methods – with around 2 years of experience after completed PhD.

You must be able to work onsite in Lyngby from day one.

You will need a demonstrated interest in applied research and be comfortable working on projects with potentially large areas of uncertainty. Depending on the project, you will be expected to collaborate closely in small teams and take initiative to manage tasks on your own when needed.

Your stakeholders will have a variety of backgrounds (engineering, clinical audiology, business) and shaping your communication accordingly will be important. Good communication skills in English are mandatory, and we will help you learn Danish if that is needed.

The human element

We are searching for a creative, positive, and practical researcher who adopts a methodical, evidence-based approach to accomplish project milestones.

However, it is highly important that our new colleague can see and feel the human element in what we do, in helping to innovate in application areas potentially dealing with young children and anxious parents.

If you think you have this skill, we invite you to join our professional team focused on moving research from the lab into clinical practice.

If you have previously worked with diagnostic audiology, hearing instruments, fitting software and/or hearing impairment it will be an advantage.

The IRU team is a small one, we enjoy each other’s company and thrive on the immediate interactions we have among us, so we expect you to be in the office regularly. Working from home is possible, but we keep it within limits.

We look forward to receiving your application and CV

This position presents a rare chance for a researcher to contribute to innovation in hearing-diagnostic and hearing-instrument-fitting technologies. It offers the best of both worlds, being immersed both in industry and academia – working in an international and cross-organizational environment, in which team-work and open communication is highly valued.

Application deadline: the 5th of April 2026

We expect to hold the 1st interview on the 9th of April, and the 2nd interview on the 16th or 20th of April 2026.

If you would like more information about the position, please feel free to contact Søren Laugesen, Research Manager, on slau@iru.interacoustics.com or phone +45 2028 1067.

Please note we do not accept applications from external recruiters. Due to GDPR regulations, all application documents must be uploaded to our recruiting system.

We look forward to hearing from you!
