Experienced Firmware Engineer

Denmark
Smørum

Are you passionate about low-level embedded development? Are you curious to learn about highly specialized real-time systems and ready to contribute? Would you like to be a part of a skilled team working together on advancing our hearing aid solutions and making a real difference for millions of hearing aid users worldwide?

If the answer is yes, keep reading!

Part of a highly motivated team
In your new position at Demant, you will join the Foundation Software group, which is a part of the R&D unit Device SW. The group consists of about 25 highly skilled colleagues, working in four scrum teams with a focus on delivering embedded SW functionalities that form a foundation of all hearing device SW platforms.

You will be a part of the team responsible for hearing aid system firmware that interfaces directly with hardware, enabling core functionalities of our platform, such as hardware drivers, power and memory management, file system, communication protocols, firmware update functionality, security and more.

You will collaborate closely with hardware and other embedded software teams to deliver the best possible performance and to shape the technologies of tomorrow. The atmosphere in the team is informal and friendly, but at the same time highly engaged.

We believe that the best results come from a fruitful team effort. We support each other, we provide feedback and share knowledge and ideas to continuously improve our solutions. We have a collaborative and creative atmosphere where respect is central, and where we work together towards common goals.

Advanced firmware features packed into a resource constrained platform
Our team is involved in all phases of product development, from IC specification, early wakeup, development, verification, to market releasing. This makes our work very diverse in terms of both pace and content. Depending on the phase of the project, we work in simulations, FPGAs or on the actual chipset. Our chipsets are advanced multi-core network-on-chip solutions developed internally. Our delivery starts with the boot ROM and extends all the way up to the application layer. We use a number of specialized in-house tools and procedures that assist our development at every stage.

Our goal is to deliver the most advanced low-power audio-enabled device, living up to medical device standards. This entails designing safe and efficient C code that provides advanced functionality with real-time guarantees for the audio system, while at the same time balancing memory consumption, compute cycles and power efficiency.

As a member of our system FW team your main responsibilities would be to:

  • Design, develop, test and release firmware for our chipset.
  • Enable hardware and production to calibrate and verify the final product.
  • Contribute to the definition and development of our internally developed ICs.
  • Develop and verify efficient firmware on a custom IC while it is under development.
  • Implement and maintain automated regression tests.
  • Share knowledge with your colleagues and participate in team ceremonies.

Your profile
We expect you to hold a relevant degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering and that you have solid experience within the following areas of embedded SW development:

  • Low-level embedded programming in C.
  • Programming for complex memory-, power-, time-constrained systems.
  • Real-time operating systems (RTOS) and real-time handling of HW.
  • Understanding of processor architectures.
  • Usage of measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Tools and processes for code quality assurance, including: coding standards and guidelines, unit and system testing, code review, CI/CD, version control (git), etc.
  • Linux environment and scripting.

We imagine you are someone who likes to build high-quality maintainable code, who is comfortable working in large, shared code repositories with comprehensive testing. You can work independently and like to collaborate within the team and across teams.
