Director - Embedded Software Group, R&D
Do you want to lead the development of the core firmware powering millions of hearing aids worldwide and help push the limits of embedded software? In this role, you will work at the heart of our technology: the foundational firmware layer that all other software in our hearing instruments builds upon. The solutions you guide will become the backbone of every product we bring to market.
The Role
As Director of our Embedded Software Group, you will lead 75 skilled engineers working at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and innovation. Together, you will define and develop the core firmware enabling our next-generation hearing instruments and help shape what embedded systems can do in one of the world’s most advanced medtech environments.
You will combine deep technical insight with strategic leadership—shaping System-on-Chip (SoC) integration, exploring AI-driven development methods, driving quality and regulatory compliance, and inspiring your organization to innovate boldly. Here, cutting-edge technology meets meaningful purpose as you help set the direction for how Demant continues to redefine hearing technology.
Welcome to Connectivity & Embedded Software (CESW)
You’ll join a global R&D organization of more than 1,000 engineers and specialists across electronics, mechanics, software, and acoustics—all united to create life-changing hearing healthcare.
CESW includes 160 colleagues in our Device Software department. We believe in collaboration, curiosity, and diverse thinking. Your ideas will be heard, and your leadership will help shape how we work and innovate.
Your Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Director of CESW, you will:
- Lead and develop an organization of 75 engineers and leaders working on Demant’s core embedded software, firmware, and tool chain
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, regulatory-compliant embedded software in close collaboration with the Agile Release Train (ART) leadership team
- Oversee integration with our SoC and hardware platforms, ensuring world-class reliability and seamless functionality
- Set clear goals, coach and inspire teams, and cultivate an agile, innovative, and accountable environment
- Collaborate with ART leadership to steer the Agile Release Train toward shared business objectives within the SAFe framework
- Shape the technical direction, exploring emerging technologies from generative AI to new firmware development approaches
- Build a culture rooted in trust, psychological safety, innovation, and technical mastery
- Align strategy, capacity, and competence development to balance short-term delivery with long-term capabilities
About You
We’re looking for a leader who has experience guiding embedded-software organizations—ideally in regulated industries—and who is passionate about creating an environment where people can do their best work. You bring thoughtful, people-centered leadership and know how to motivate teams, support diverse talents, and foster a culture where everyone feels ownership and can contribute confidently.
You communicate openly and clearly, and you enjoy building strong cross-functional relationships. Collaboration comes naturally to you, and you create space for different perspectives to be heard and valued.
You have a solid background in firmware and embedded systems, along with an understanding of Agile and SAFe principles. You balance strategic thinking with a hands-on appreciation for real-world technical challenges. Just as importantly, you approach new tools, technologies, and ways of working with curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset.
We expect you to hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field, and we welcome additional leadership education or equivalent experience.
