Director, Agile Hardware & Mechanics for hearing aids & accessories

Denmark
Smørum

Are you a purpose driven leader with a genuine vision and a commitment to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide? Do you have experience leading a large mechanical group, and can you develop leaders and lead our great mechanical engineering team to reach even higher results?

Mechanical development is key for technological advance in Demant. The department has grown significantly in the past 3 years, and to continue the path we are on, we are looking for a Director with background in Mechanics and experience in agile development methods, who can both develop our Mechanical Organization’s ability to execute in a new setup as well as promote our culture of creativity, technology excellence, and high engagement.

Welcome to Device Hardware and our Mechanical Group

Based in our headquarter in Smørum you will lead a large cross-functional SAFe delivery organization while being responsible for the mechanical engineering competence across other organizational units.

The SAFe delivery organization consists of Agile teams with different skills in Mechanics, Electro-acoustics, Electronics, and Usability, as well as Line Managers, Scrum Master, and Product Owners.

The Mechanical group counts more than 40 skilled Mechanical Engineers, Specialists and Managers, in our Device Hardware department. With the rest of the R&D organization, we develop world-leading hearing solutions, and accessories to hearing aids. The group delivers mechanical design in all phases of development and the product life cycle from early concepts to in-market design updates. Together with the Operations team and the Product Quality team the group covers all aspects of mechanical development work from 3D design, simulations, robust design, GPS, DFM, Drawings and handover to the tooling department and manufacturing. The entire value creation including prototyping and manufacturing is in-house.

"What characterizes our mechanical group is our highly engaged and motivated people. We have a high standard of creativity and inventiveness, all while sharing a casual and enjoyable work environment. All our people are very committed to improving the lives of the people we are helping with our innovations.” says Mads Sager, Senior Director, Design & Usability.

Direction, leadership, and technical knowhow

Your primary task will be to lead the people in the delivery organization to ensure motivated and highly engaged employees, operational efficiency, and a culture that both supports delivery and being the best workplace in town and develop and coach the managers in your direct and indirect organization.

Moreover, in this position you will manage the mechanical competence area to secure constant development of our key competences and engineering best practices.

As we are transitioning into SAFe, you will lead change in the organization related to agile leadership and methodologies. You will play a key role in further developing and transforming our mechanical engineering group as we are implementing SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) for hardware and significantly altering our ways of working.

The role comes with many interfaces to stakeholders across the organization, ranging from commercial to production. It will be your task to ensure that the interfaces to the other parts of the organization work smoothly, while ensuring that mechanical aspects are heard and prioritized, being the voice of mechanics in the organization.

This role is very operational full of day-to-day prioritization and making ends meet. But it is also highly strategic and visionary. Basically, I am looking for leader who can show us the future of mechanical engineering and how we get there” says Mads Sager.

Leader with mechanical experience

The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with senior leadership experience from a similar position within product development. You either have an engineering background in mechanics, or you have gathered your knowledge of mechanics from years of working in the field.

You are a servant leader with a history of developing great leaders and high performing teams. High integrity, knowing where you are headed, and leading with intent. Demonstrated experience guiding teams through significant transformations. Experience with agile development in a hardware setting is clearly an advantage.

You can effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Skilled in people interactions, managing a variety of stakeholders both inside and outside, and adept at providing and accepting feedback.

What’s in it for you?

You will play a key role in guiding and transforming the best mechanical group in the hearing healthcare industry to meet tomorrow’s challenges. Change management is key here.

This is a unique opportunity to utilize and develop your leadership skills within an R&D organization with some of the most skilled professionals in their field. We are all motivated by professionalism, curiosity, and commitment to innovation.
