Financial Controller
Purpose
Demant Canada is seeking a Controller to lead all accounting and financial reporting activities for its Canadian operations. Reporting to the Head of Finance (Canada) and working closely with regional and global finance teams, the Controller will ensure strong financial governance, timely reporting, and compliance with IFRS, Canadian regulatory requirements, and Demant group policies.
This role is hands-on and suits a technically strong finance leader who is comfortable operating in a multinational environment while partnering closely with local business leaders.
This is a hybrid role based out of North York.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for Canadian entities
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with IFRS and Demant Group policies
- Deliver accurate, timely reporting packages to regional and global finance teams
- Analyze variances and provide insightful commentary to management
Accounting & Controls
- Oversee general ledger, revenue recognition, inventory accounting, fixed assets, leases (IFRS16), deferred revenue (IFRS15), and intercompany transactions
- Maintain and enhance internal controls in line with group standards and audit requirements
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and documentation standards
- Act as primary point of contact for external auditors and coordinate annual audits
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Manage Canadian compliance requirements including HST/GST, PST/QST, and statutory filings
- Calculate corporate income tax provision and deferred tax asset/liability at year end
- Coordinate corporate income tax filings with external advisors and Demant Group Tax
- Support transfer pricing documentation and intercompany reconciliations
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Act as finance lead for ERP and systems-related initiatives impacting accounting and reporting
- Drive process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- Ensure strong data integrity across financial systems
Leadership & Business Partnership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Canadian accounting team
- Partner with operations, supply chain, HR, and commercial teams on financial matters
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes as required
- Perform other ad hoc tasks as required by Manager
Qualifications
- CPA designation (CPA preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or senior accounting role
- Experience within a multinational, shared services, or matrix organization strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Canadian statutory requirements
- Experience with ERP systems (MS Navision experience an asset)
- Proven ability to manage audits, controls, and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Self-driven and strong problem analyzing and solving skills
