Scientist
Industrial Postdoc: Auditory-Cognitive Profiling of Individuals with Subclinical Hearing Loss
Location: Eriksholm Research Centre, Snekkersten, Denmark
Position Type: Temporary position for almost 2 years (21 months), full-time.
Do you want to improve hearing health care and make a difference for people with hearing difficulties through research? Then you might be the one we are looking for.
About the position
Some people struggle to follow speech even when their audiogram looks normal. We want to help, but we need to understand why these hearing difficulties occur. If you’re the kind of postdoc who wants to uncover mechanisms and be part of an experienced team who can help turn those insights into audiological solutions that could improve hearing healthcare, we’d like to hear from you.
Eriksholm Research Centre is looking for an industrial postdoc to join our scientific team. The candidate will join an existing and fully resourced project. The position is available, since our current postdoc scientist is transitioning to an internal position in the company.
The candidate we are looking for will focus on investigating how hearing difficulties relate to underlying auditory and cognitive mechanisms, while connected and integrated projects will focus on neurophysiological measures and clinical intervention. You will thus be part of a skilled team with the capacity to link underlying mechanisms to objective measures and intervention. If this appeals to you, read on for details!
The postdoc opportunity is funded through the industrial postdoc program of the Innovation Fund Denmark and therefore limited to candidates who have received their PhD within the last 5 years. This is an industrial postdoc position together with the University of Southern Denmark and the Odense University Hospital (both located in Odense, Denmark).
The project work is furthermore connected to a collaboration with the Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville, Spain. The candidate’s main working place will be Eriksholm, but some work will be carried out at the Odense University Hospital and some visits at the Virgen Macarena University Hospital may occur.
In your new role, you will have responsibilities that include:
- Generating new audiological insights within the field of auditory-cognitive profiling of a currently underserved population.
- Collaborating with our team of researchers within Oticon and partners in academia.
- Implementing and maintaining technical experiment set-ups.
- Managing on-site research visits with test participants.
- Supporting off-site testing remotely, where necessary.
- Applying statistical analysis to collected data.
- Disseminating results through publications in leading scientific and clinical journals.
- Engaging with the research community through conferences and workshops.
The ideal candidate
You will have a significant interest in interdisciplinary and application-oriented work, supported by effective collaboration with researchers, technical and audiological staff outside of your main discipline.
You have a PhD, completed within the past 5 years, in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, experimental psychology, audiology, cognitive science, physics, or related fields. You furthermore have experience with psychoacoustic testing and connected engineering/programming tasks.
Your qualifications:
- Proficient in programming and statistical analysis.
- Technical skills connected to sound playback and acoustics.
- Familiarity with hearing science.
- Experience with psychoacoustical and physiological measures of hearing.
- Demonstrated research prowess with several first-author publications in respected academic journals and conferences.
- Prior success in supervising students to degree completion.
- Ability to present research at esteemed international institutions and conferences, with proficient English language skills.
- Danish language proficiency is an advantage but not mandatory.
