Insights Project Lead - mixed methods
Background
Demant is one of the world's leading hearing aid manufacturers. Our mission is to push the limits of technology to change the lives of people with hearing loss. Delivering innovative and high-quality solutions that solve real-life challenges is core to our business.
Function
This position is part of the Leadership Team of the Insights function. The purpose of the Insights function is to “Enable decision-making rooted in insights that will create growth and sustainable competitive advantages”. As such, we act as trusted advisors bringing data, insights, and strategic perspectives to senior decision-makers across the organization. The Insights’ function consists of 10 people with a foundation in competitor insights, qualitative research, quantitative research, and applied data science. We are a group characterized by a deep intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a knack for conceptualizing new business opportunities and identifying sustainable competitive advantages.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- You will have a dedicated responsibility to act as a lighthouse for our Applied Data Science capabilities and continuously develop how we can make the most of this approach to data and analysis in combination with other methodologies. As a Medical Technology company, we have a wealth of data about how our products are used, our customers and our users. Being able to translate that data into strategic and commercial impact is a defining feature of the job.
- Leading insights projects end-to-end (scoping the project, executing the research, advising decision-makers and outlining initiatives). Ensuring the research is relevant for the business, that the research is of a high quality, that the recommendation is clear, and that the project is delivered on scope, time and budget. Succinct communication and managing stakeholders will also be key to succeeding.
- The specific area of interest for research projects will vary, but the focus will generally be on innovation strategies within product development and commercial development. Your work should be based on a deep understanding of our customers, users, relevant technology, and the industry we operate within. Most projects will require carrying out primary research, but we will often make use of a third-party research agency or freelancers (30% of projects), which you will then be responsible for managing.
- As part of the Leadership Team, you will also be responsible for co-developing the Insights departments’ ways-of-working to ensure excellence. This includes introducing new research methodologies, theoretical perspectives, how we collaborate with internal stakeholders, how we build the team, etc.
- Approximately 10-20 travel days a year is to be expected (fieldwork, conferences and team off-sites). #LI-CC1 #LI-HYBRID
Profile
To succeed in the role as Insights Project Lead you have a rich research toolbox, possess a well-developed business acumen, an ability to take the creative leap from research to innovation, and have experience advising senior stakeholders in their strategic decision-making. As a person you have a mix between deep intellectual curiosity, a can-do attitude, and an in-it-together approach to projects.
Qualifications
For this role within the team, we are looking for an experienced and innovative researcher with a proven track record of commercial and strategic impact. As such, we envision you to have the following professional experience and educational background:
Professional Experience:
+7 years of experience working on insights projects on behalf of senior stakeholders to enable their decision-making and help craft their strategies. An ability to utilize new research approaches unlocked by technology (e.g. AI) is expected. This experience may come from working in Big Tech, MedTech or a consultancy. Industry experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Educational Background
A master’s degree in a field related to applied data science (e.g. social data science, business administration and data science, or computer science) will be preferred, but this is not a deal-breaker. Hands-on professional experience within this rapidly developing field is more important. A Ph.D. is (naturally) a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Applied data science research skills. We utilize a wealth of both internal data (Salesforce, app data, fitting data, sales data, etc. – often stored in our data lake) and external data sources (LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, news channels, demographic databases, etc.). You will need to know what it takes to mine, clean and utilize these data sources with the optimal machine learning methods in combination with each other and additional data sources (e.g. quantitative or qualitative research). We have a budget for buying external services when needed. Python is the most used programming language for this role and most of our internal data is available through the Databricks platform.
- Project management (scope, time, and budget), incl. stakeholder management- and communication skills.
- Business acumen (knowing how to build a business case) and strategic thinking (holistic perspective and an understanding of how to build sustainable competitive advantages).
- Fluency in English required. A high-enough proficiency to carry out research in additional languages is a significant plus (French, German, Spanish, Chinese, etc.).
Working Relationships
Internal: You will be working closely with IT and data scientists across Demant as well as with the Hearing Aids Leadership Team (especially the SVP of Global Marketing and Head of Strategy), and the Global Heads for our Portfolio Management, Brand, Sales, Training, and Service. And, of course, the full Insights Team.
External: Local Markets (General Managers, Heads of Marketing, Sales Organization, etc.), Customers (where hearing aids are sold), Users (people with hearing loss), Industry Conferences, and third-party research agencies.
Demant is an equal opportunity employer and committed to having a diverse workforce.
Kindly submit your application as soon as possible, as we are screening applications on a continuous basis.
Deadline for the application is July 26, 2026.
Please be aware, that I will be on summer-holiday, and can not be reached: 10th – 26th July. Interviews are planned for august.
