We are looking for an engineer with electroacoustic and signal-processing foundation, a restless appetite for new technology, and the creativity to turn a rough idea into something you can hear, measure and put in front of a user. If you want your fingerprints on hearing aid concepts that do not exist yet, this could be the role for you.

Discovery contributes by helping the organisation build the right things, testing assumptions early and generating evidence before concepts enter the product development process.

A Discovery project takes a raw idea and reduces the risk in it, cheaply and quickly, so the organisation can decide with evidence whether to invest in taking it to market.

We evaluate every new concept on all parameters. We reduce the risk on three different parameters: 1) desirability — do people genuinely want this, 2) feasibility — can we build it, and 3) viability — does it make business sense. A technical solution is never assessed on its own merits alone, but on how well it answers a real user need. Discovery does not produce a finished product. It produces confidence: either a well-founded yes with the proof to back it, or an equally valuable no, and the reason we stopped.

Your team

You will be part of a team of 11 highly skilled project managers and engineers of different backgrounds looking forward to you joining. We emphasize collaboration and knowledge sharing alongside having fun.

The nature of our work brings us in close dialogue with the rest of the R&D organization – all our ideas must click-in in their work as well, which gives us a big network in the organization.

Your role

Your role has two closely connected sides:

• The first is exploratory: you scout new ideas and emerging technologies, and you describe — concretely and credibly — how they could this technology could contribute to the future hearing solutions.
• The second is hands-on project work: you join running Discovery projects as the technical engine, contributing your own proposals and building the prototypes and experiments that turn assumptions into evidence.

Your primary tasks are to:

• Identify and evaluate new technologies within acoustics, audio and signal processing, and translate them into concrete hearing aid concepts for our product areas.
• Build prototypes and demonstrators — from bench setups and algorithm proofs to wearable demos — that make a new concept tangible and testable.
• Plan and run technical experiments, and take part in user tests and business validation, so a concept is evaluated on desirability, feasibility and viability rather than on technology alone.
• Assess the cross-disciplinary consequences of a new concept: what it means for transducers, acoustics, signal processing, power, mechanics, fitting and the user experience, and which teams are affected.
• Contribute technical judgement to Discovery projects throughout their life: framing hypotheses, choosing the smallest, useful experiment, and reporting honestly on what the evidence shows.
• Present concepts, results and recommendations to audiences ranging from senior management to specialist engineering teams.

The position is based at our headquarters in Smørum, Denmark, with flexibility to work from home. Expected start date is 1st of December 2026. It is a requirement that you can start onsite from day one.

Your background

We are looking for potential as much as experience. What matters most is a strong technical foundation, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated ability to turn ideas into experiments, prototypes and insights. We will help you develop the Discovery mindset and toolkit.

On the technical we expect you to:

• Hold an MSc or PhD in electroacoustics, acoustics, electrical engineering, applied signal processing or a comparable field.
• Have three to five years of experience working with audio technology — ideally within hearing aids, hearables or another domain where sound quality, size and power budgets all matter at once.
• Are comfortable looking across disciplines to understand how a change in one area moves the whole system.
• Bring domain knowledge within sound and hearing aids, and practical experience with DSP: algorithm development, real-time implementation, measurement, and the trade-offs between what is theoretically elegant and what fits in a device someone wears all day.

On top of this, it would be nice if you also have an interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and a willingness to explore how modern AI-assisted tools can accelerate both engineering and discovery work. We use mainly VS Code and Github Copilot.

On the personal level you:

• Are a creative engineer with plenty of ideas and a genuine drive to introduce new technologies and new products. You are motivated by making a real difference to how innovation moves forward, and you are not satisfied with an idea until someone can experience it.
• Have good collaboration skills. The role has many interfaces across the organisation — towards the commercial side, and towards the technical communities in R&D. You enjoy working with specialists in other fields, you build trust quickly, and you can communicate a complex technical idea clearly to a decision-maker and precisely to an engineer on the same day.
