Oticon Medical BAHS specializes in developing, producing, and distributing advanced bone-conduction hearing systems, including long-term implants, sound processors, software, and surgical tools. We are a global leader in hearing solutions, and we are currently looking for a Patent Attorney to join our Legal team in Sisjön, Gothenburg, Sweden.  The location for this role will be Gothenburg and could follow a hybrid working schedule.

You will be responsible for Oticon Medical’s Intellectual Properties with the primary objectives of strengthening the patent portfolio and ensuring that Oticon Medical launches products with the lowest litigation risk. You will advise and strategically partner within the business, including with leaders within the business, with respect to patent and related activities. You will utilize high level expertise on specific topics for assigned portfolios and tasks, and within the IP area.

 

You will be responsible for

  • Understanding the business of Oticon Medical as part of the bone conduction industry, and the role of IP in the business at that level

  • Undertaking and leading core and some complex patent activities in role, e.g. patent drafting and prosecution, patentability and freedom to operate analysis, IP due diligences, litigation, and contract IP terms

  • Establishing and managing the relationship with external counsels

  • Managing a patent and design portfolio relating to a key product, multiple products, or other strategic assets in selected count

  • Applying expertise in national patent law and practice and superior working knowledge of foreign patent law and practice

  • Understanding other forms of protection relating to exclusivity and applies as required

  • Ensuring framework for recording of inventions disclosures (IDs) relating to technical ideas

  • Ensuring overall global management of trademarks

  • Ensuring risk assessment of product development and launch

  • Building relationships and counsels senior colleagues and key Business Partners on complex and high value/impact IP-related matters and represents IP on respective boards/meetings as needed

  • Managing patent and other exclusivity litigation with some independence according to the agreed process

  • Contributing to management of budget through careful planning, management of external counsels, and applying cost containment strategies

  • Contributing to implementation and applies IP policies and guidelines

 

About you

You have an educational background as engineer or scientist, M.Sc.E, M.Sc., or Ph.D. and more than 10 years of practical experience within IP – possibly from practicing in the industry or in private practice. You have either concluded parts of European Qualifying Examination for European Patent Attorneys (such as pre-exam) or other national qualifying courses within IP. And last, your technical knowledge must include physics, mechanics or electronics.

As a person, you have strong analytical skills and are able to quickly grasp new areas. In your work with IP, you have an eye for details and, at the same time, can communicate clearly and concisely with different stakeholders. You are structured and systematic and have an interest in understanding Oticon Medical’s business. You have well-developed research and critical thinking skills, and sound decision-making abilities, with attention to detail to produce consistently accurate work. You have a strong customer-service experience & focus on building and sustaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders and project teams. You need to be fluent in English.
